    I fredags kväll öppnade Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde utställningen Ljusets magi med friluftsmåleri från senare hälften av talet. Friluftsmåleri är när konstnären sitter med staffli, färg, penslar och annan utrustning ute i naturen och målar. Poängen med friluftsmåleriet är att fånga det ljus, de dagrar och den atmosfär som man bara kan uppleva i det direkta mötet med naturen. I Sverige tog det fart under talet och då efter inspiration från franska konstnärer som Camille Corot, Jean-François Millet och Charles-François Daubigny. Många svenska målare begav sig till Paris för att lära och söka motiv i och omkring staden. Det är snarare regel än undantag att svenska målare som ville vara med sin tid sökte sig till Paris.

    Den konst som visas på Waldemarsudde fram till den 28 augusti bottnar i en realistisk avbildning, den är föreställande, dock med speciell uppmärksamhet mot ljusets verkan i bilden. Motiven växlar: här finns ängar, skogar, våtmarker och bergsområden men också mera urbana miljöer liksom porträtt &#; fastän rena personporträtt bara till nöds kan fösas in under begreppet friluftsmåleri.

    Emma Herland ( – ) was a French painter.

    Biography

    Herland was born in Cherbourg and became a pupil of Jules Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant. She first exhibited at the Paris Salon in She was a member of the Société des Artistes Français from onwards and won an honourable mention in [1]

    Her work Children Eating Soup in a Charity School was included in the book Women Painters of the World.[2] Herland died in Quimper.
